How do we truly define talent? In a world that often measures skill in degrees and certifications, it’s easy to overlook the nuanced and deeply personal journey that shapes each individual’s abilities. This is where the concept of "journey talent" comes into play.

"Journey talent" represents more than a resume or a list of accomplishments. It’s the unique set of skills, insights, and wisdom that emerges through life’s challenges, opportunities, and milestones. It’s about what we’ve learned along the way—and how we apply those lessons to adapt, grow, and create value in the present.
For me, the journey began in the U.S. Air Force. It was there that I first developed a sense of flow, discipline, and teamwork—traits that became foundational to how I approach both life and work. The military taught me focus, precision, and the power of teamwork while simultaneously opening my mind to the importance of adaptability and creative problem-solving. Research and data science became my allies, helping me uncover patterns and insights in the most complex scenarios.
Over the years, I’ve built upon these lessons through experiences that range from resolving dead technology projects and addressing audit exceptions to driving modernization efforts. Each step—from creating fully automated end-to-end deployments to reviving stalled transformations—added a new layer of depth to my "journey talent."
This concept also allows us to reframe conversations about experience in ways that dismantle outdated biases, like those tied to age or education. The phrase "30+ years of experience" might lead some to inappropriate assumptions, but "journey talent" tells the richer story—one of a lifelong learner, constantly evolving and adding value through diverse contributions and experiences.
In this series, I want to take you on a deeper dive into the pivotal moments, projects, and lessons that have defined my journey. From the discipline of military life to the collaborative chaos of large scale IT projects and transformations, each story will highlight how these experiences shaped not just what I do, but how I think and lead.
This is a story about growth, resilience, and the power of never stopping - never stopping learning, adapting, or believing in the impact we can make. Let’s explore the journey together.
